| 1452192 | 2018-07-30 21:32:00 | I hadn't checked for some time, but it felt like my VDSL speeds had improved. When I checked I found I was getting ping of 36/37, download of 40-45 and upload of about 9.5. This is a definite improvement on what I remember which was ping 40+, download 35 if I was lucky and upload 7.5-ish. I checked at various times of the day and it is pretty consistent and also very smooth, i.e. the line was not at all jumpy. No fibre up my way so it is not a matter of traffic being diverted, at least not locally. |

Chorus have been doing a lot of cool stuff to get the best out of the copper in areas that are not getting UFB. www.chorus.co.nz sp.chorus.co.nz That explains it in better detail. And just because your cabinet is Fibre fed (like almost every cabinet, other than an odd few) that unfortunately doesn't mean you're getting Fibre at some point. Not the government subsided UFB Fibre anyway. Tony, have you had a master splitter installed? |

We originally weren't going to have it at all but our local Ratepayers Association did a great lobbying job. Wratterus, those are very interesting articles. Nokia real world modelling suggests 50Mbps can be attained at 1km. Maximum performance at distances less than 600m can exceed 100Mbps. I'm about 600m from the cabinet, but I suspect I won't be seeing 100Mbps any time soon. But > 50mbps seems like a possibility. |

| 1452196 | 2018-07-31 07:25:00 | I had the same experience with VDSL, by the time we got a fibre connection it was fast, can't remember the figures. I thought that it was because as people had fibre installed, the load on the copper was reduced. It was a gradual happening, not as if something had been done to the line etc. | mzee (3324) | ||
