I actually agree with the banks.
Too many people write passwords down, have 'remember password' ticked on their devices, sync them all and leave them wide open without any anti-malware at all - especially phones.

1452153 2018-07-30 05:40:00 The best passwords in the world wont protect some people clicking on links or opening false sites and entering their details to scammers. :(

Read that article earlier on today, as some have commented ( and I agree) if the password is not good enough then the banks site should reject it until it meets the requirements, once met if the passwords get hacked then the banks the fault. Its easy enough to set the password complexity to a certain level. Its easy enough to do on Server OS's -- BUT its the customers who then complain its to hard to remember.

Keeping your OS upto date -- What a joke, the banks OS's aren't to start with.

So every one who has Windows Has to have Windows 10 ?? And what about Linux -- hope all the Mint users have upgraded to Mint 19 that's been out for a short while now :p

I agree! :D

As for MINT users, from what I read the writers have been fiercely competitive towards Windows 10 with Mint 19 and ensured YOU have to get it working for them.

Stay with Mint 18/sarah/cinnamon my friends and cruise without a problem. :)

1452157 2018-07-30 09:06:00 Well done Wainui, love it.

Why haven't you updated to enjoy the whole experience? :D I been using linux for years. Just not that interested.

As previously mentioned half my Servers are linux based, one way or another. One thing this VM is kind of putting a HUGE stress on some part of the LAN, when in full screen mode it stutters for a few moments as the LAN lights go nuts before it catches up. Mind you it is running / Stored on another machine out in the workshop.

BACK ON TOPIC:

As I said the banks cant protect against Stupid ;) (Clicking on links asking for details) Saw one the other day, it wasn't even a very good fake  But the guy still clicked on it anyway - spent the next few days trying to convince the ANZ his computer was clean and fully upto date.

Told her (lady at the Bank) it was a PBCAK error --- Took her a couple of minutes to figure it out :D

1452158 2018-07-30 10:16:00 well the other answer is to use a bank that has better security than just a password. tweak'e (69)

8976 Yep So was I, it was a stir since Mint 18 is now old and outdated :p

Going by the linked article, according to the Bank, unless a person doesn't have the latest OS or upgrades then that could be an excuse not to reimburse a person if they got hacked. Like insurance companies, any excuse not to pay out.

ANZ Bank states customers breach its terms and conditions and so could be liable for fraud losses if they bank from devices that don't have an up to date operating system and up to date anti-virus software. Now while they don't say whats classed as upto date, theres a huge hole.

So since (linux as an example) has Mint 19, does that mean that 18 is now out of date ? - It could be because there's a newer version, same with Windows, if a person is on an older version they may consider that out of date ;) As with phones, both Android and Apple, not everyone has the latest and greatest.

Mind you , as I mentioned, doesn't matter what OS or device a person has, if they still clicked on a fake link in an email or site they are still giving the details out.

1452161 2018-07-30 21:43:00 Bugger the O/S.
But people should take responsibility.
Exactly, clicking on things, handing out pin numbers, writing passwords down, using stupid passwords...etc etc
