1452279 2018-08-06 01:52:00 Unit plus install was $3k for the gas and plumbing side of things. Another $250 for sparky which seems a little steep as I have power on the other side of the wall from where the unit would be fit. Plus 2 bottles at $100 a pop.

From what I've read cylinders usually last 15-25 years so I can't complain about getting 52 years out of mine.

Wrong.
The price of copper changes a lot.
Currently it isn't much at all. More like $30, and only if you strip the inner tank out of the casing.
If as is they will give you less.

Husband used to do this...last one he did was a couple of weeks ago.

As for a cylinder install, like for like, no carpentry adjustments needed he charged $1500 for the last one, all up.
That was a 135l low pressure.

As for corrosion, we had soft (acidic) water down South. You can tell this because you get that blue/green in your sink etc from it leaching off the copper pipes (if you have any left).
we put in a stainless steel cylinder there for that reason.

Especially in the big cities.

I'm really not that worried about the scrap value of it. It's not going to make the process of removal any more enjoyable. On a side note that website was giving me some horrible scrolling issues on Chrome

That's because the old ones were built properly.

. . . built properly, and they didn't have such a high percentage of Daylight Savings while being run in .

(I seriously doubt you'll get 52 years out of the new one, even if it's an identical twin, new-old-stock . )
