1452270 2018-08-05 08:29:00 Thanks for the replies. I figure it's time is up but if a quick fix could extend it's life a little longer that would of been nice. We only intend on living in this house for another 3 or 4 years and then keeping it as a rental so I think the conversion to gas makes more financial sense when compared to solar. hueybot3000 (3646)
1452271 2018-08-05 11:14:00 Paying an extra line charge? Putting up with significantly more delay in getting hot water at the tap? Not for me, I would stay with power. In case you're low pressure get it all upgraded to mains pressure, there you go, something else to worry about. Ofthesea (14129)
1452272 2018-08-05 11:32:00 Christchurch so it would be bottles. Already on mains. Significantly more delay? Not in my experience... hueybot3000 (3646)
1452273 2018-08-05 19:24:00 It might put potential renters off knowing they have to fork out for bottles on top of electricity and rent gary67 (56)

No quick fixes.
Cheapest option is to just replace it with the same kind

1452275 2018-08-05 23:07:00 I agree with piroska. False economy to try a repair for 3-4 years. When these breakdown, they breakdown. Repair and 3-4 months down the trail you probably will need to replace anyway. However, get a plumber to look and advise. Bryan (147)
1452276 2018-08-05 23:08:00 Copper tanks do not last forever in a lot of areas of NZ because of corrosion. If you get it replaced, don't let the plumber take the old one away, local scrap dealers should give you $60 to $80 for the old one.:) Arnie (6624)

Thanks I already have that noted. Quotes I have state that they only disconnect and drain. I doubt they would want to remove it anyway as it's well and truly wedged between walls. The $60 to $80 might cover the beer I consume while putting the house back together...

1452278 2018-08-06 01:17:00 Just wondering, approx how much were you quoted to have it replaced.

Im dreading this happening to mine. How long do they last on average ?
