1452250 2018-08-04 10:12:00 There is lots of thermal lag and lead (hysteresis) as the Earth's surface cools in Winter and warms in Spring so that is why the dates are not symmetrical around the shortest/longest day. zqwerty (97)
1452251 2018-08-04 10:57:00 Sounds very technical there zqwerty... I like to believe the story that heat expands and cold shrinks. Hence longer days in summer and shorter days in winter.
How is that for a theory?

1452252 2018-08-04 11:23:00 Frost outside tonight first one for 10 days due a couple more next week if the forecast is to be believed. gary67 (56)
1452253 2018-08-04 22:02:00 Well officially spring starts in September, .

Yes, I am aware of the calendar and official bits.
However, what I mean is it is spring, at least in Auckland, because the plants have decided it is.

It's been warm.

Winter was slow in coming this year, and spring was fast. A very short winter really.

10 degrees this morning early. Despite what the TV weather says, we have had 20 degrees here during the day lately.

“Spring is sprung the grass is riz, I wonder where the birdies is .
Some say the bird is on the wing, but that’s absurd,
according to the story I heard,
the wing is on the bird!”

Not sure of the author either, but sounds a bit like it could’ve been Spike Milligan?

I also have Freisias through and Irises . Azaleas, and Camellias out and Rhodos budding up nicely . . . . .

I like that you have strawberries on the pants, piroska . Lol!

1452256 2018-08-05 09:11:00 No-one knows the author but it is sometimes attributed to Ogden Nash. However the consensus seems to be that it was the prolific author Anon. John H (8)
1452257 2018-08-06 03:50:00 .....sometimes called "The Brooklyn National Anthem" and it dates back to at least 1940

Well, actually . . . . . this is the garden they are in now:

8987

And they are all through it now, and trying to escape out the gaps in blocks . . . so yes, cause I sit on the edge of it and weed it . . . . it has happened, get up and squashed fruit on the pants .
But you know what I meant . . .
