| 1452550 | 2018-08-10 05:36:00 | I've been counting the steps in my daily walks using a Fitbit, so at the end of each day I know how many steps and how far I've walked. What I'm looking for is a map program that lets me 1. Nominate an origin, 2. Nominate a destination 3 Enter a distance. The program then computes the best route from start to end, shows the route, and overlays a path from the origin in the direction of the destination as far as my distance. Each day (or whenever) I enter another distance and the path is extended along the route by that distance. So it's a virtual tour using my own data. Does such a program exist? Those with Fitbits probably know there is a variation of this in the app, but it's restricted to New York and Yosemite Park. I've used this and have nearly finished the NY Marathon (!) but I'd like to nominate my own origin and destination. |

| 1452553 | 2018-08-11 04:28:00 | I've been counting the steps in my daily walks using a Fitbit, . Why? It's obsessive for one. I have a friend, he was fat...the male pregnant look. Then he got a dog. Dog likes walkies...so now (he is retired) he walks the dog, 4km a time, 4 times a day. he isn't fat anymore, he is as lean as, and fit. He knows it's 4km cause he did look that up, but it's not 4km cause he walks 2 then turns round, it's because of where they walk. Along a stream, nice dog walk where dog is away from traffic and people etc. I did a 4km walk not long ago. Husband had an appoitment and wanted me to come. It dragged on so long I walked home. I looked it up the next day, cause no one beleieved I did it...normally I don't walk distances like that well. But it was fine, it was quite flat, so I might give it a go again, not there but say down to the local Fresh Choice or something. If you walk to somewhere...or home from somewhere, you can't cheat. And no need for silly countings....just walk and get fit. |

| 1452554 | 2018-08-11 04:58:00 | Quite agree piroska. An associate of mine walks 3K each day on a walking machine and can't understand why I am not impressed. I walk the same distance most days usually just after dawn and love listening to birds. One in particular is a Bellbird who starts up as I leave the house and then a Thrush a bit further up the street. No contest! Ken :) |

Anyway, if I'm curious about distance I just plot the route on Google Maps (right-click, select Measure Distance, then just click to mark out each aproximate turn in the course). If you want to assess different routes, just drag one of your existing points to another area, and observe the change to the distance. 19km is a comfortable walk now, unless it is too hot or humid. Takes 3hrs, plus a bit of time for toilet/food breaks. |
