885797 2010-05-17 22:50:00 Hello.

I'm stumped on this problem and haven't been able to find any solutions.

When it has the windowsupdate url anywhere in the address bar (even part of a google search) windowsupdate.microsoft.com it says "Internet Explorer cannot display the page".

I've installed and run virus scans from:
Malware Bytes
SpyBot: Search and Destory
Super Anti-Spyware
Microsoft Security Essentials.

I then went as far as running combofix.

I've checked the hosts file in system32/drivers/etc and it doesn't have anything referring to windows update, or any plain IP addresses.

It's fine to go anywhere else, but anywhere that has "windowsupdate.microsoft.com" anywhere in the address bar, simply doesn't load.

Any thing else I can try?

885800 2010-05-17 23:17:00 So other sites are fine, except the windowsupdate site? What if you select windowsupdate from the menu? Speedy Gonzales (78)
885801 2010-05-17 23:18:00 I've been trying to sort a similar problem with Microsoft for 7 weeks
along with thousands of other guys and even upgraded to Win7 only
to find the problem migrated from Vista to 7 in the files transfer. When
I find the time I will have to Format and do a Clean(custom) install.
Hope your problem is not as severe. I am unable to download anything
from microsoft.

885804 2010-05-17 23:44:00 This may or may not fix it (support.microsoft.com). If there's nothing in the log

You can tick these then tick fix checked. Close browsers. Or use ccleaner to delete the startup entries

Dont think this should be there

885805 2010-05-17 23:46:00 I have already tried that, sadly enough.

I've also used dial-a-fix to reset the permissions and reinstall the windows update service.

885806 2010-05-18 00:06:00 (Over 15 minutes, couldn't edit post)

I have done all the things you mentioned with HijackThis and rebooted.

The problem is still occurring.
