884975 2010-05-15 02:58:00 Hi all,

Recently trying to do a clean install of Vista on my PC as am having a few problems that no one (including Microsoft Techs) can solve. However when I get to the screen in the install that asks where I would like to install my hard drive, the list is empty.
I have tried downloading new drivers for my HD but they are already up to date. It's obviously connected correctly or I wouldn't be able to start windows...
any ideas?

Ted

884976 2010-05-15 03:04:00 Does the BIOS see this hdd? Speedy Gonzales (78)
884977 2010-05-15 03:05:00 nope lvlrhotshot (15773)
884978 2010-05-15 03:07:00 Something is wrong with the hdd then. The BIOS needs to see it, before anything else will. How big is the hdd (is it IDE or SATA), and whats the brand/model of the mobo? Speedy Gonzales (78)
884979 2010-05-15 03:08:00 500GB SATA Seagate Barracuda 7200.11 32MB Cache with currently 292GB of free space.
Mobo is a Gigabyte GA-M68SM-S2L

884980 2010-05-15 03:11:00 Whats the model of this hdd?? Its not one of these hdds that had a firmware prob is it? Was the hdd the same hdd you used on this mobo before? Or is it new? So, there's something on this hdd now? Speedy Gonzales (78)
884981 2010-05-15 03:17:00 its the same as what windows is installed on at the moment, ST3500320AS is the model number.
I have also just discovered that CPU-Z is not recognising my Motherboard, which has never happened before.

884982 2010-05-15 03:23:00 I would run the drive detect software here (seagate.custkb.com). See what version of the firmware is on the hdd now Speedy Gonzales (78)
884983 2010-05-15 03:27:00 have done that, its on SD15 lvlrhotshot (15773)
884984 2010-05-15 03:34:00 I would say yours is one of the hdds affected by this firmware bug (forums.seagate.com). Which is why the BIOS, and the install cant see it. The firmware update is on the link, I posted before. BUT, some people have had probs after updating the firmware to SD1A. If its under warranty take it back to the shop get them to update it. If they brick it they'll have to replace it Speedy Gonzales (78)
