885910 2010-05-18 07:35:00 still getting this message

'the current input timing is not supported by the monitor display
please change your input timing to 2048 x 1152 @60 Hz or any other
monitor listed timing as per the monitor specifications,' Did you change it to the settings?

Depending on the Graphic Card/Onboard Graphics on the PC, it may not be able to adjust to the settings the monitor wants. I have seen this many times esp on older PC's -- attach a LCD to them and all hell breaks lose, attach an older CRT and sweet as.

885911 2010-05-18 07:38:00 Is it a SATA hdd?? If it is, (and if XP's setup cant see the hdd), its because AHCI is enabled in the BIOS. You need to disable it, so XP will install. Or slipstream the SATA drivers. Or extract the SATA drivers to a floppy. Then press F6, when you go to install XP Speedy Gonzales (78)

If you are still running Win 7 then right click anywhere on the desktop, click personalize, display, adjust resolution and also see advanced which can change the Hz value.

I'm surprised that you friend will have a Win 7 licence then want to go back to XP.

885917 2010-05-18 08:25:00 yeah those setttings are all as recommended. but is that the same as input timing.?

she likes the look of win7 but pretty is no good if it crashes all the time.

885918 2010-05-18 08:29:00 Input timing is the Hz value and I don't believe that's why it's crashing as mentioned earlier. Do you get a BSOD when it crashes? Define crash. If a BSOD is a file name mentioned? Sweep (90)
885919 2010-05-18 08:41:00 I use nVidia, not ATI -- BUT under the advanced settings, / troubleshooting/ Does it have the option to adjust ( mines grayed out) Example (www.imagef1.net.nz).

What you can also look at - click start, type in reliability ( you should only get to reli) then in the search results up top, click on " view Reliability history"

It takes a moment to load, but once loaded, where it crashed there should be a red circle with a X in it, select it, and look to see whats crashed, (what is it if its mentioned) there may be on the right a link to check for solutions - click that and see if anything helpful is given.
