885808 2010-05-18 00:40:00 Had this problem a couple of weeks ago on a customers PC.

The fix was;

Go into add remove programs, uninstall IE8 which reverted back to IE7.

Reboot, open IE7, go to tools/Internet Options/ Advanced Tab/ restore advanced Settings & reset.

Manually download IE8 or get it off a Mag CD One place is here (www.ie8.msn.com).

Install it, then try windows update again.

885810 2010-05-18 02:40:00 Just an update.
It didn't work for it; however.

Doing what Wainui suggested did allow access to the automatic updates service which allowed me to install May's Microsoft Malicioius Software Removal Tool.
The computer is restarting now.
Will update when I can see if I have access.

Fingers crossed.

Edit:
Wooooooooooooooooooooooooo!

Looks like Microsoft's Malicious Software Removal Tool worked.

Thanks for all the support guys!
