885351 2010-05-16 11:54:00 +1 7-zip. I used to hate how ugly the 7-zip toolbar and icons were but I fixed that up (killercookie-server.media-xshell.com) so now love it. sal (67)

885355 2010-05-16 23:52:00 PowerDesk

PowerDesk is not free.

But you did remind me I had it when I was running Win XP Pro 32 bit. I changed to WinXP Pro 64 bit but it broke then.

Now that I'm running Win 7 Pro 64 bit I thought I'd give it another go and it works fine.

Go figure. So I've replaced Izarc which I was using.

885356 2010-05-17 00:17:00 WinRAR .... been using it since 2008 .... not sure when the trial period ends  SP8's (9836)
885357 2010-05-17 00:30:00 WinRAR is the best one. Trial will expire but you can keep using it indefinitely.

The older Winzip just annoyed you but didn't shut down. It's up to you if you wanna use it against the rules.

There are plenty freebies out there. Windows XP and up I think has a free zipping thing.
