| 804795 | 2009-08-27 19:46:00 | I was at work then Misty, (if you could call it work, not a fracas to be seen all night.) and work is just 250 yards down the hill from Jacobs, slightly past the fast growing library. So the wine has to wait a bit, I just hope the extra aging won't put the price up too much. Which side of the library - the Birkenhead Medical Associates side or the Curry n' Spice side ? Misty :) |

| 804797 | 2009-08-27 20:45:00 | A couple of weeks ago I bought a Nikon D60 DSLR (my first DSLR :D ) What I found at the time -- and since, - is that prices vary hugely (1) Camera & Camera - base price $1495 (2) Noel Leeming $1695 (3) Harvey Norman $1995 (4) Jacobs, Birkenhead $1495 That is a whopping 33% markup from the lowest to the highest. I am glad I shopped around. Rightly or wrongly I have been told that Nikon had dropped the price by $500 because of cheap competition from Sony etc. If that is correct then Harvey Norman are pocketing the difference. Whatever the story -- it certainly pays to compare prices !! Misty :horrified :horrified Photo & Video in Christchurch - Nikon D60 +AF18-55mmVR+SD4.0gbspecial $1,290.00. I find they're always worth a look. :) |

| 804798 | 2009-08-27 21:19:00 | Yeah I bought my Nikon Digital from a Parallel Importer. (Elive) I saved about $400 from Hardley Norman and Noel Lammingtons (not that I would have bought from them. Some of the Camera shops have better prices than those main street retailers. Who have massive markups so that can rip off middle New Zealanders. The downside with a Parallel Import is the lack of warranty and the fact that you do not get an English manual. They gave me a badly photocopied one which is hard to read. But for $400 bucks I will put up with that. And as Metla says they are always bringing out new models (just like PCs) |

| 804801 | 2009-08-28 00:00:00 | This is all very interesting, for me. As I am pondering a better camera; currently I have a Panasonic TZ15, which I think is very good for a compact, and so convenient for travel. But it's been enough to make me interested in taking a step up to a DSLR. The only thing that holds me back, is the bulk of the things (and price for certain models). The Canon 500D, which apparently takes reasonable video as well as good quality photos and would be convenient from that perspective, costs about $2500 in Harvey Normans and Noel Leemings:eek: Mind you that comes with 2 lenses. I notice a similar thing, on a paralell import site for about $1600. I wonder where the Micro 4/3 cameras are heading? |

However, Photo & Video is always worth a look. I usually check a range of sites, B&H in New York too - being aware of the GST. I've bought a couple of lenses from them, but some from places in NZ. It varies. :) |

Yes, a guy in our North Shore Club has previously said that Photo & Video in ChCh are very good. He has bought a couple of items off them. For my money though I got twin kit lens - the one you mention plus a 55-200mmVR etc. Also thrown in was a 4 Gig SD card. So am very happy ! Misty :D |
