804720 2009-08-27 23:13:00 are they standard super bright leds or high powered cree style ones? utopian201 (6245)
804721 2009-08-28 03:11:00 1. Try tesa.co.nz.
2. Energizer makes a "For flashlight use, 2AA batteries, High intensity bulb 2.6V 0.30A" Packet labelled T1-2, which can be found on the display in well-stocked supermarkets. Thanks will try tesa. They are not in the supermarkets I have visited.

804722 2009-08-28 03:17:00 are they standard super bright leds or high powered cree style ones?It is one very small LED with two prongs which just plug in. I presume it would be the standard model. I do not know what a 'cree' style one looks like. I think I will give up and just buy another LED torch!! Pato (2463)
804723 2009-08-28 03:45:00 LEDs require different voltages than a 2-cell which is 3.0 volts.

The basic LED flashlight I have requires 4.5 volts, but I believe you are referring to this: www.flash-lights.com which is a halogen two-prong bulb for my Maglites, the rechargeable kinds.

These Halogens run on 6 volts though, but I know of no other two-prong bulb as you described.

LEDs would not lend themselves to non-polarized two-prong configurations as they could be very easily installed backwards.

Probably the cheapest option.

804725 2009-08-28 05:25:00 If you're going the new light route, I suggest something by Fenix (www.fenixlight.co.nz).
They are expensive, but they put all other lights to shame. Their 2xaa lights can push 180 lumens, water proof (but not suitable for diving), made of aircraft grade aluminium and are practically indestructible.

Also as far as I am aware, they are one of the few things out of china that can be considered world class.

Can you take a photo of your LED, to give us an idea what it looks like?

Absolutely, although if I was getting a Fenix I'd go for one of these (www.fenixlight.co.nz). Very, very bright (the R2 is currently Cree's brightest-binned commonly available LED), and uses 18650 cells rather than AA.

Note that if you are planning to mod an existing torch with a high-end LED, you will need to consider heatsinking - if you don't keep the LED from getting too hot it will cook itself.
