805073 2009-08-29 04:00:00 Hi, can any person advise as to the percentage of people who may now be using VoIP instead of the normal broadBand which cuts out telecom. kountryken (14110)
805074 2009-08-29 06:40:00 Maybe you can clarify your question?
VoIP runs on a 'normal' Broadband service. Some of us have a 'normal' broadband connection which includes a VoIP telephone (e.g. xnet). We may or may not also have a Telecom phone line. So some of us have two phone lines.

805077 2009-08-29 09:50:00 Well, taking a local sample, 100% of me is a VOIP user. (Although my feet are not heavy users. They share my mouth's connection because that's where they are most of the time.)

Xnet Fusion, which is naked ADSL.

805078 2009-08-29 11:03:00 You're talking about two different things here:
1) VoIP is used to make Telephone calls
2) You ask who uses VoIP instead of Broadband, which doesn't really make sense. VoIP runs *over* a broadband connection usually.

As to actual numbers in terms of people using VoIP without any Telecom phone lines, I dont know? I do know that you can get a 2talk / VFX number and run it over a Telecom broadband connection in exactly the same way you can run it over a naked DSL connection, so I'd personally suggest it would be damn near impossible to tell :-/

Lets just say "lots of people" are ;-)

Which brings us to the interesting part, why do you ask?

805079 2009-08-29 23:57:00 Sorry all. Right, my wife and I have for some time wanting to get rid of the Telecom charges $49 a month. We are already using the Xnet river plan $31 a month which needs the Telecom switch board from Nelson. We are thinking seriously of purchasing the ata box and going onto Xnet fusion $69. And were asking the question I suppose, what is the popularity of the Raw broard band kountryken (14110)
805080 2009-08-30 00:04:00 It is VERY popular with me.

And not just because of the ABT feature ;)

805081 2009-08-30 00:21:00 I have two VFX lines. Saves me about $130 a month in phone bills, but the reliability is NOT as good as a Telecom or Telstraclear line. That may be my TelstraClear internet mostly at fault, of course.

We don't have a physical phone line at all due to cable internet.
