807415 2009-09-11 07:37:00 We always got corduroy pants and new Buster Brown saddle shoes and a stiff long-sleeved shirt for the first day of the new school year .

Everything we wore that first day was stiff - the pants made a "whoosh-whoosh" noise as you walked and the ribs rubbed together - the shoes were so stiff they squeaked and the shirt was so stiff it stuck you in the neck and you thought that mom had left one or two of the pins in it when she took it off the piece of cardboard which it was pinned to in the store .

Don't forget the new underwear too - it was still somewhat starched from the store and it had a newness that never came back after the first washing .

I remember the first time I got chunky-style peanut butter and jelly in my lunchbox and I tried to figure if my mom was putting something odd like vitamins or aspirin in the peanut butter .

The first day of school also marked the change of the weather from hot of Summer to the cool-ish crispness of Fall - all in one 24-hour time period and always on time for that first day back to school . 		SurferJoe46 (51)

Answer : If you cut classes, no one can call your parents.

Question: Why does a retiree often say he doesn't miss work, but misses the people he used to work with?
Answer: He is too polite to tell the whole truth.

Question: What do you do all week?
Answer: Monday to Friday; Nothing, Saturday & Sunday I rest.
