| 806005 | 2009-09-01 09:47:00 | It seems a simple enough question, but if you want a neat clean round hole, then only a hollow leather punch will do it. A watch maker should have some of different sizes. If you want a pigs ear of a hole, then use a nail or a drill. A nail will just spread the leather, and then it will close up again when the nail is withdrawn. A drill will tear at the leather fibres. If you do use a drill, then run it at very high speed at a very low feed so that the fibres are cut and not torn. This will give a better hole than a nail, but still not as good as a proper punch, and it will still have rough edges. Most "leather working punches" will be too big, that's why it is best to go to a watchmakers for a good hole. |
