| 886732 | 2010-05-20 22:57:00 | Hi There, recently bought a 64GB FlashDrive (no name). It was being recognised by Vista64 but was not allowing to save any files. Used in W7 and was able to save a Word doc. Found the file system xFAT and read it has many advantages over NTFS. Despite this, I changed it to NTFS for a smooth running. However, now Vista is not even recognising it. Later used ParagonPM to change it to xFAT but couldn't succeed. After this, W7 also failed to open it despite recognising it! It seems, now the Drive has turned totally useless. Searched for readings almost everwhere including PCWorld UK but couldn't get the clue to pin it down. | 886733 | 2010-05-21 02:14:00 | Sounds similar to this: 64GB flash drive not functioning (www.techspot.com) Maybe you could try the HP USB Disk Storage Format Utility mentioned in post #2? Sad to say it may not even be a real 64Gb flash drive (read post #7 on that page), especially if you paid a REALLY cheap price for it? ;) |

I've re-formatted the Drive in the Disk Management utilities in Vista64 to FAT32 despite it offering exFAT. Now, it works in W7 (could even save and open files) but still not being detecting by Vista. Tried to use HP USB Storage Format Tool and manipulated the StorageDevicePolicies in the Registry but of no use. One thing is clear now that the USB Drive is not fake. | namboothiri (14469) | ||
