887462 2010-05-23 08:26:00 My work laptop is a dell latitiude d630. I'm trying to find out if it has a dvd writer rather than just a cd writer and dvd player. On the side it says CDRW/DVD ROM. Does anyone know how would I find out or do I need to add some driver software to get it to burn ?

thanks

887463 2010-05-23 08:28:00 Sounds like a cdrw / DVD only. Not a DVD writer. If its not a DVD writer, no driver will change that. Look in device manager under DVD / CD ROM. See what the model of it is. Then do a search in google Speedy Gonzales (78)
887464 2010-05-23 08:29:00 I suspect it will read DVDs but not burn same.

It will burn CDs.

887465 2010-05-23 08:35:00 It tells me it is one of these "hl-dt-st cdrw/dvd gcct10n" but googling this does not tell a computer novice much. Is anyone able to help me >

thanks

887466 2010-05-23 08:41:00 Get Nero Infotool (www.nero.com). Unzip then run it. See if that'll tell you. If the DVD writing options are ticked, then it should support burning to DVD's Speedy Gonzales (78)

I just looked up the specs.

What O/S are you using?

887469 2010-05-23 09:18:00 XP pro will not write to a DVD writer natively assuming you have same which I doubt.

Have you tried to make or copy a DVD on that setup? If so then how?

887470 2010-05-23 09:24:00 It will with this (www.microsoft.com). But it'll have to support dvd writing. It may, or not work if you're planning to burn files to a blank DVD (so you can play it in a separate DVD player). This depends on whether the DVD player can play the format Speedy Gonzales (78)
