808244 2009-09-09 07:17:00 Am I alone in expressing dismay at the quality (or lack of) English being spoken by today's TVOne news readers? :( :( Zippity (58)

808246 2009-09-09 07:24:00 It's not as bad as the misuse of "their" and "there", "should of", "could of", and extra apostrophes on this forum. somebody (208)
808247 2009-09-09 07:31:00 No Zippity, you are not alone.
I despair of the texting generation and the TV and radio announcers who cannot tell the difference between their and there and all those apostrophes in the wrong places!

808249 2009-09-09 07:50:00 The scariest thing I have seen is a lawyer spelling "though" as "thou". Shocking. Cato (6936)
808250 2009-09-09 08:30:00 What especially gets to me is the bad grammar, pronunciation, or mis-use of terms, our TV1 so-called Weather forecasters use. A sample;

:groan: the threat of "shahs" in the upcoming weather,

:groan: the Bimbo who claimed we would be told exactly where the bad weather would hit - after the break. (Exactly?)

:groan: the pretentious use of "negative" temperatures (technically correct but not in common usage - most non flying mortals or aviators in the lower altitudes have never heard of the International Standard Atmosphere where negative temperatures are referred to, and do have a use).

808251 2009-09-10 00:34:00 Watch TV3 instead - much better, and don't get the weather rubbish every minute or so. Peter H (220)
808252 2009-09-10 00:53:00 Watch TV3 instead - much better, and don't get the weather rubbish every minute or so.Except that their political reporting is incredibly biased and often very poorly researched. TVNZ's isn't brilliant either, but at least it's better than 3's.

I rarely watch either - TV news in this country is utterly useless these days :(.
