808036 2009-09-08 09:58:00 Hi guys, I have been fruitlessly looking for someone who is interested in doing some solder reworking for me . Someone who has their own (or works at a company who has a) rework station .

Now I am at my limit of electronics knowledge here so excuse me if I am speaking jargon, but I have a bunch of PCB's here with BGA type connections that need to be reflowed to fix cracked cold solder joints .

if you have a rework station please PM me, if you are able to use a rework station but don't have access to one then please contact me as we may be able to come to some arrangement .

Flamer .

808038 2009-09-08 11:37:00 You could always borrow someones oven and slowly heat the parts (hardforum.com). :nerd: bob_doe_nz (92)

808041 2009-09-08 22:34:00 Now I probably shouldn't be talking since I don't know too much about this but I was under the impression that BGA chips needed to be done in a proper reflow oven, and that a hot air rework station will melt the solder but it doesn't provide the proper temperature control for the thermal profile of the chip that an oven will

In spite of all this I am tempted to buy one of the cheap chinese ones for my own purposes...

You are probably quite right, although i thought you had control over the aggresiveness of the profile with the hot air reflow station so it was more a case of knowing your gear than requiring the big mammoth ovens to do it correctly.

and yes I am keen for a student if you know of any! maybe even PM me their email addy. cheers!

I was about three dollars away from buying a heat gun off trademe and doing it that way.. until i heard people talking about popped capacitors and burnt out boards.
