807461	2009-09-07 01:30:00	Weekend before last, SWMBO was driving my car (Mazda SP20 - auto with tiptronic) when suddenly it revved and the A/T light came on on the dash) Had it towed to trans mechanic, and it seems that something failed inside which caused a shaft to start eating into the end housing. $3513.96 Xmas is canceled. 807463	2009-09-07 01:41:00	Is it a pre owned jap import? Yeah - imported it myself in December 06. Apparently (as I'm finding out!!) it's an issue with SP20's. Some are fine, and some have this fault (and/or a fault with reverse). Still, I paid a lot less for the car than I would've from the dealer, so I can't complain too much. And it could've done it on the way up to the PressF1 meeting in Nelson, which would've been a disaster!! :p	nofam (9009)

Real shame too cause the SP20s are great cars. (well apart from this issue, apparently) Manual all the way for me though, I have some serious trust issues with tiptronic boxes, and this isn't helping. :o Hope the repair cost hasn't caused ya too much grief! :(	wratterus (105)

It's worth too much (financially & emotionally :rolleyes:) to junk it. Next car will be a manual for sure!! Hopefully a Mazda MPS to be precise!! :D	nofam (9009)

807469	2009-09-07 02:58:00	A new transmission might be cheaper than repairs. Look into it. Mechanics would rather fix your box than get you a new one, more labor. The only transmission I can think of that would cost as much/more would be the getrag from a supra (indestructible 6-speed awesomeness).	Cato (6936)

They might be beefcake too, but dayomn!!! IF you can actually find one new, you are looking at upwards of 10k. Second hand they go from anywhere around 3.5k, that would have around 100,000km on it. The 6 speed box in the MPS is excellent, I think the MPS is the only new Mazda with the 6 speed. If you wanted a Turbo they go real hard, over 250bhp in the new 2.3 I believe they make. Otherwise it's about 160bhp for a naturally aspirated one. Niice cars. :drool	wratterus (105)
