808814 2009-09-11 13:22:00 Install AddBlock Plus Element Hiding Helper addon Joe. Then when you right click on the ABP icon at bottom right of screen (you may have to set the option for it to be there), there is an option to select the element to hide.

When you have selected the element which is the blank block on the left and confirmed a window will open. There is a preview box which is useful, and somewhere on there is a width box with the value 170. Tick that box, and everything is hunky dory again.

PressF1 now fills your screen wall to wall, not an ad in sight and no blank space down the left hand side.

Good luck:thumbs:

Thanks for that Terry - AdBlock Plus Element Hiding Helper, I love you!!! :D

So easy to use!!!

Chocky fish time for Terry!

I tried to do this a couple of times without the 170-part and I just destroyed the whole site.

I hadda go back and disable ABP and start over again.

Did yous guys feel a shift in the time/space continuum when I did that?

So far - so good!

(edit) It keeps coming back with new ads in the left column and it destroys the 170-thing every time.

I have to re-do ABP elements each and every time or I go back to default with the ads showing all over again.

Did you click on the Add Filter Rule (I think it has that name) box at the bottom of the Hider window in order to save the settings ?

808818 2009-09-11 21:20:00 Here you go - new CSS for whatever addon you want to use to clean stuff up posted here (pressf1.co.nz).

Thanks for that - the forum looks decent again. :)

808819 2009-09-11 21:57:00 With Firefox, you use the stylish addon to apply it (but remember to limit it to the PF1 site only, otherwise the rest of your browsing experience will look *very* weird).."

How do you limit to pf1 only ?

Using @-moz-something, but I can't remember fully - I don't use Firefox (I'm an Opera chap). Could someone else who *does* use stylish help out here?

808821 2009-09-12 00:05:00 Just click the Stylish icon, and write a new style for pressf1.pcworld.co.nz (or whatever you use). Then paste the CSS in there. :) pcuser42 (130)

When I do that I lose the whole site . I am making sure that the areas I want gone are the only RED too .

When the ads are there it takes a full 90 seconds to load a page now . In the past I never noticed any latency - well, not much at all .

Maybe I should try a re-do on ABP if I knew how .

808823 2009-09-12 00:43:00 addendum: every time I change the screen IE: go to a different post or try to post something, I have to re-do the blocking all over again.

It seems that I am getting US ads now too for auto insurance and things in SoCal exclusively.

I still see the subscription to NZers for the magazine however - you'd think they could at least give me the US equivalent!
