807988 2009-09-09 09:23:00 At the risk of being snarled at.... I can offer 40hrs of gardening. No pay, but free food & lodging for a week. Beer & wine supplied. Generous breaks. PJ:help: Poppa John (284)
807989 2009-09-09 09:40:00 I do a wide area, not just Wainui, I dont charge an actual travel fee -- read on you'll see why.

May seem a little strange, BUT even though I do have an hourly rate, I very rarely charge it - I charge by the job. That way I get people recommending me, and calling back again when needed and the way I look at it, I would rather have 6-7 lower paying jobs than rip someone off in one bigger one.

Doesn't work all the time - as sometimes you end up only breaking even or sometimes a loss.

I'll be the first to admit that we couldn't survive on what I make alone, my wife has a very reasonable paying job, and between us we manage (mostly).

Its a funny game - one week you could be flat out - next doing bugger all.

Some weeks you need someone else, next week you dont really have enough to carry yourself through --

Then you get all the papers calling wanting you to run one off special ad's - for only $250 + gst --- HA!!!

My point was.I doubt Wainui gets much work from Wellington
Percentage wise - as a off the head guess -- Lower Hutt 40% - Wellington & surrounding areas / Upper Hutt / Johnsonville / Island bay Area - 45%, Wainuiomata 15%

807990 2009-09-09 10:04:00 do, I have an hourly rate but offer flat rates, These are very popular as people don't like the idea of racking up a potentially big bill, but sometimes it has me working for ages for my quoted fixed rate, but it balances when I offer a flat rate and it takes me much shorter than I expected.

I always tend to do that bit extra which takes more time, sometimes they come for a fix, something simple I fix it, open it up de-dust it, air compressor it then run all the updates, virus & malware scans, give it a clean up and defrag as well, on a rare occasion I have even thrown in free RAM. Crazy really

I like to see the customer really happy when they see their computer working like new or better than.

Ditto .

No kidding - and we are trying to survive on what I make . . . . .

Yep, do nothing then when you get something time consuming, everyone rings that day .

Like I said - population . . . . . . . .

Meanwhile I was going to be upgrading best friends PC today - but the couriers have pinched it .

Or lost it to give them the benefit of the doubt .

She sent it from her work with the rest of their shipments, the courier (looking at the original box), commented how nice it was .
Ticket 11208100 and ticket 11208102 all got delivered . 101 which was the PC has vanished from the face of the earth .

The only pay out to $1500 and it was a gaming PC . Not to mention she hadn't backed up her most recent stuff . . . . . . .

I have to say Wainuitech/PCtek you both have my admiration and respect for being Sole Traders in the IT game - it's so much easier and safer to hide behind a big corporate in this industry . I really hope things work out for you PCT, and that everyone here keeps gainful employment - I believe there may be the first slivers of light at the end of the proverbial tunnel, and it would be a shame to see any of us fall over as things were finally starting to improve!

Hang in there!

807994 2009-09-10 03:36:00 lets pray to god that tommarow and the future will be a good day and that we all can get a happy job forums12345 (15197)
807995 2009-09-10 04:20:00 That will work. I'll also pray for the winning lotto numbers, the regeneration of all those brain cells I ruined, and a weather machine. Metla (12)
807996 2009-09-10 08:12:00 A small word of comfort (or not, as the case may be). 'Himself' has worked in the electronic serivic industry in Invercargill. September is ALWAYS dismal. We used to say it was lambing, not sure of the cause now. But never a year went by, without him coming home and telling me that we would be going bankrupt. We didn't. Things came better in October, November, and things were great in December. R.M. (561)

If I wasn't ready to make a run for the hospital (baby due any week now), I would take you up on that. Hell, I'd even offer to supply half the beer. Damnit, maybe a couple of years ago.
