| 807678 | 2009-09-08 08:40:00 | There is a Utopian system its in Norway, Sweden and Finland. Capitalist countries with a heart. No probs we will pay you 5 million crones or what ever they have and tax back 90% of it I'm stunned - have you seen their approaches to Crinminal Justice - I don't think you'd appreciate their liberal approach. But I'm sure you and John Minto would feel at home there, demanding an even higher tax rate and trying to ensure no one got rich. High tax rates are pretty similar to maximum incomes, rob from the hard working and give to the slackers, oops I mean workers. I notice when Telecom guys get a chance to own their own business and take on the risk (and profits) for themselves, they run a kilometre. Guess you can't complain about the boss when you are the boss. |

Seen a million docos on the scandyesque countries and their awesome jails. Lots of skills learned, etc etc. Actually help people instead of just locking them up. I don't care about tax as long as I'm living alright and not scraping through on minimum wage. Then it's a problem. |

A liberal approach here is taken as weakness by crooks caused by a lack of fear of judges sentencing. Its just not worth the hassle trying to change their ways just lock them for their crimes and in their late 40s most of them start to turn around. |

| 807682 | 2009-09-08 21:46:00 | :stare:Career criminals are a fact and the reason is they are taught this at a young age, either by being locked up young or by dodgy parents.Maybe they do turn around when they reach 40 or so but do you really believe the answer is just to keep locking them up?All that young life being wasted away in crime colleges, churned through the system and spat out only to return? There has got to be another way.Norway is a beautiful country and so i believe is NZ.Very similar in their beauty so why cannot their societies operate the same? Just a thought. | willowtheblue (15208) | ||
| 807683 | 2009-09-09 01:55:00 | Yes lock them up and use more preventative detention just like most New Zealanders want. Scenery and fiords the same, Norway has mainly Norwegians. In the NZ population we have all sorts, now breaking traffic laws, stealing and violence is all they know they were brought up that way. It is our fault though from the late 1980s we got soft on career criminals we listened to the new age gurus that if we were nice to them they would stop stealing and hitting people. It didnt work so now NZ is getting tough on crime thanks to the ACT party and the sensible sentencing trust. |

| 807685 | 2009-09-09 03:14:00 | Of course all of the crime has nothing to do with the state of the economy for the last 25 years where the rich got richer and the poor got poorer it's all to do with the fact that some people are just born bad. | zqwerty (97) | ||

Surprising to see you have come over to the side of right-thinking people at last, zqwerty!!! What was the clincher for you? :D |
