| 807979 | 2009-09-08 22:25:00 | Pctek needs a job. Preferably IT obviously. Anywhere. Sick of scraping by - time to move on. Hows your corporate networking?, or are you just hardware? I know a guy down in Dunedin, he's probably got heaps of contacts down there. I think he was looking for a number 2 a couple of months ago! |

| 807980 | 2009-09-09 00:21:00 | I think part of it is population. Wainuitech lives in Wellington - 3rd largest city. Here (cause I don't do Invercargill) it's a minor suburb. And no, it's not viable to do Invercargill either. Yes I think you are right pctek. A big part of the problem is a lack of a population base which is to be found in the larger cities. Your dilemma is one of choosing between lifestyle and occupational necessity and that is not necessarily an easy one to make even though we need money to survive. Short of moving to a place like Dunedin, I would respectfully suggest that your semi rural location would preclude long term economic viability in the computer industry-arguable maybe but tinged with reality :) Good luck whatever you choose :) |

And no, it's not viable to do Invercargill either. Also I don't know what it is with September, it was crap last year too. Lambing? That was suggested - then again, not everyones involved in animals.... On the other hand down here, I don't need as much. I did the calculations last night and it was horrifying how much I'd need to live in one of the major cities. Compared with here. I loathe the idea really. We like being in a minor suburb. I do advertise in the Yellow Pages - robbers that they are. It cost me $425 for a smallish square. The Yellow Pages annoys me - look how many categories there are - which do you choose? Service? Hardware? Repairs? Consultant? Etc etc. They stuck me in Hardware this year - I told them Service. Whatever... I also advertise in the local free paper for a hideous cost. For now I'll just see how it goes. Wainui is further away from Wellington than Inver is from you. |

| 807983 | 2009-09-09 03:20:00 | Wainui is further away from Wellington than Inver is from you. No he isn't. I don't know what street he is exactly but Wanuiomata to Central Wellington is 21km. It's 45km to Central Invercargill form here. There are loads of techs in Invercargill - it's not just the distance. I have had occasional calls from there but they won't pay travel and I won't do 90km or nothing. I have had customers from further than that but they chose to come to me - most after they moved. |

Although the competition in Gore - while he continues to get them there in the first place - due to the reputation of the previous owner - he loses them again after they have been there once. Like today - what do I see on the bottom of the laptop? His crappy repair sticker - a few days ago.........and here's me fixing it now. Sigh.......... |

| 807986 | 2009-09-09 03:41:00 | Populations: Wainuiomata - 17214 Lower Hutt - 97701 - his territory I'd say. Wyndham - 500 odd, ditto for Edendale up the road. Gore - 11,000 odd. Surrounding little towns - much the same as Wyndham. Solmeister - Networking? Well I've done it. Corporate Networking - only if I was forced to. Greg - He agrees with the work situation and hates the idea of moving. Todays he's happily playing with firewood and the vege garden while I fix things. The perfect solution is: Get parti time work as well down here. But, no I draw the line at cows........ |

Well pctek at least the cows are reliable and don't complain about the service:D but yep the hours are hell. Seriously though, have you thought about moving into the schools market? I would have thought that some opening might be available in that direction.... a personal approach might be a good option??? |
