807481 2009-09-08 04:19:00 SJ, don't forget the Nissan/Mazda/Ford/Subaru's 4EAT. Nasty little things, love to overheat especially in 4WDs. Cato (6936)
807482 2009-09-08 04:39:00 I did not know that. As far as I knew they made the best 6-speeds in the market BMW M3s, M5, Audi S4s, 911s and the like.

Actually none of the vehicles you mentioned are big in the "freeway flier" list here. They are finicky and temperamental and fall pretty short on longevity.

I personally place them just one step above an old MG-B or Austin Healey 3000. Don't get me wrong here - these were all "cute" cars, but not very reliable. The standard joke is "Buy two or three : one to drive and the others for spare parts."

We consider M3s as bottom of the barrel as well as the 911 and ANYTHING Audi!

They just don't live on the freeways for long.

I have had a lot of experience with the Mazda?Ford (Toy-Truck) Rangers and Ranger-IIs, and they leave a lot to be desired if you start to push them at high speed and with heavy loads.

The OD units run hot and burn up, since they don't get sufficient lube unless you are accelerating or stopping often to slosh the gear lube around. We call that "burping the baby".

That's why they die here - we run long distances at high speed and on a lot of level ground.

Yup! Nasty - but for a reason.

They all were designed to run Japanese ATF and when we got used Japanese units here, we saved the old Japanese ATf for ourselves.

It was superior in every way - even dark and dirty-looking!
