- - but here's a neat article that shows the fear M$ has for the ground advances that L-based systems have made so far -

Microsoft tells US retailers Linux is rubbish (www.theregister.co.uk)

'What most customers want' is Windows

As the launch of Windows 7 approaches, Microsoft is distributing literature to American retailers claiming that Linux works with few peripherals or online services, offers limited software capability, affords no authorized support, does not work with games "your customers want," and cannot use video chat on any of the major IM networks.

"What most customers want" is Windows, the literature says, not Linux.

808142 2009-09-09 08:10:00 Sorry, Windoze is not working quite right, so I can't get on the site. R2x1 (4628)
808143 2009-09-09 20:53:00 Banshee has native support for the iPod and Zune too (as far as I know).

But I will agree to the fact that I still have a Windows install for playing games. And it's also a big pain in the butthole to get a streaming media server for PS3 going.

Other than that no real issues...

It's interesting that there are no attacks on Novell's linux. Only Ubuntu. :p

Edit: And any Linux distro looks better than W7 and desktop effects will be enough to occupy people for a few hours, lol.

808144 2009-09-09 22:27:00 Mmmm... and even though most of it blatant lies, they still continue to distribute that trash. Camera, iPod & MP3 compatibility: Works with almost every device.
Printers and scanners: Works with almost every device, and with more devices than Windows does
Software compatibility: Better than Windows - it will run any POSIX compliant app, and can even have a decent crack at running many Windows binaries.
Windows Live Essentials: There are opensource alternatives to *every* app here, all of which work perfectly on Linux.
Games: Many work, in particular World of Warcraft has been supported perfectly for a very long time. Many games still don't work though, so this point is semi-correct.
Authorised Support: There are numerous official support providers - Canonical and Redhat to name but two...
Video chat on all major IM networks: Yes, via Pidgin. The rest of the slides aren't much better either.

808145 2009-09-10 01:54:00 Windows 7 appears to be the best release version of windows since W 3.1.1.

However, that is a bit like saying that this particular hippopotamus can dance Swan Lake better than any previous hippopotamus.

808146 2009-09-10 02:45:00 Sorry but I gotta say, Windows 95, 98SE, 2k have been the best releases of Windows. Having said that, I saw nothing wrong on Vista either. W7 is just annoying because of the taskbar. I simply detest it. If I could turn if off, my opinion would probably be different.
I have Windows 7 RC running on my laptop. And I have a Windows Vista install on my desktop just for playing games.
