888306 2010-05-26 04:02:00 Got a client who runs MYOB Premier v12, just on two PCs.

The network is gigabit, I’ve run a few tests copying large and small files around and all seems to be fine, copying a 700MB iso takes around 10 secs, and hits 100mb/sec, so the actual network appears to be fine.

Both PCs are brand new, Athlon X2 245 with 2GB RAM, running Windows 7 Pro 32 bit.

The ‘server’ PC runs MYOB great – no hesitation when generation reports etc. The ‘client’ PC is noticeably slower, especially when generating reports. The MYOB data file is around 23MB and has been optimized by a MYOB specialist this week. And yes, they are selecting TCP/IP when logging on rather than NetBEUI/NetBIOS. ;)

I’ve been looking at the network utilization graph in the task manager while MYOB is generating reports or bring up items lists on the client PC, and it will occasionally spike to 5% or 10%, so it is getting nowhere near the capabilities of the network connection.

The MYOB data folder is shared on the server PC and the drive mapped on the client PC as per MYOB’s instructions (for the shortest file path possible). MYOB support think it should run fine with minimal slowness, but....well it isn’t. For example bringing up the items list (around 2500 items) on the server PC takes less than a second, on the client PC it takes around 10 secs.

Sorry for the long spiel, I’m wondering if anyone has a similar setup or has any tips or suggestions on what can be done to improve the speed. I don’t’ really want to suggest a terminal server just yet.

Thanks!

888307 2010-05-26 05:15:00 We currently have MYOB Enterprise 19 (recently upgraded from Premiere Enterprsie 6) and while network performance isn't terrible, it's not flash either. We don't tend to see more than about 20% network utilisation, and it takes about 12 seconds to load over the network as compared to about 4 seconds locally. We get about the same time ratio while doing some tasks within the application, e.g. something that takes 5sec locally will be about 15sec over LAN. However, we also need to bear in mind we have multiple users on two terminal servers using the application (data is stored on file server, not either TS), with 7 separate company files totally approx 250MB, so this performance level is acceptable.

So, in summary, yes we also find it far slower over the network than locally, despite not getting anywhere near 100% network utilisation.

888311 2010-05-26 22:20:00 I can't do that, but I can answer these queries one on one as they come up which I have been and will continue to do. DeSade (984)

Really, why not?
MYOB don't want people to know about their issues??

888313 2010-05-26 23:45:00 This is not an official medium for these queries.
The PM I sent Wrat held a email address to start this process off.

One of my clients has just upgraded their servers to SBS2008 Premium to get ready for the new MYOB AO on SQL.
