| 887913 | 2010-05-25 04:29:00 | hi has anyone faced any problems using these converters (www.trademe.co.nz), my asus p6tx58 board has got no IDE sockets and i still have a perfectly working dvd writer. i dont want to get SATA dvd writer jsut for this reason, as il be getting bluray soon. running Windows 7 |

| 887915 | 2010-05-25 05:15:00 | I bought some of these things from eBay once, but they only supported hard drives and didn't work with anything else (I think they lack support for ATAPI) - and even then seemed to have problems with my SATA controller in AHCI mode. They advertise them as being CD\DVD compatible on TradeMe but these same ones (with the same picture) are also on eBay. After the ones I bought didn't work, I asked the eBay seller if they were 100% sure that it worked with CD\DVD and they said they didn't know. I would ask for a 100% answer of compatibility and an agreement of a refund if they did not work, before I purchased them. If you don't want to bother, there are some others (but more expensive) that are probably better anyway. |

| 887916 | 2010-05-25 20:02:00 | SATA DVD burners are going for about $45 on Trademe - lots cheaper than the older IDE burners, so upgrading the drive is an attractive option. However, personally, I think Blu-Ray is likely to be a disappointing option in terms of media cost and poor reliability. |

| 887919 | 2010-05-26 00:09:00 | I gave up on the IDE-SATA converters and just bought an expansion card with IDE port. I recommend eBay as the ones here are stupidly expensive. For about $15 you can get a JMicron JMB363 with 2x SATA 3Gb/s ports and one IDE port which uses PCI-E 1x interface.
