He has actually been sentenced to life imprisonment, with a minimum non parole period of 18 years. That means he cannot be considered for parole for at least 18 years, and he can be kept in prison for life if the Parole Board decides not to release him because he is a continuing danger to the community. That will be decided after he has served at least 18 years. Personally, I expected him to get more, given the nature of the crime and what he did to his victim's body after death, and his attitude in court. Not sure how that term compares with recent sentences for murder. |
