810148 2009-09-14 10:17:00 Hi, thought USB would be nice and bluetooth.

Just wondering.
If the car has a custom stereo, would it be expensive?

Ie., at night if you turn the lights on it goes red, the same color to the aircon and to the window buttons. The stereo itself is about 4 inch high, cassette and CD and it appears might be behind a faceplate that goes all around the stereo unit, the aircon and my foglight buttons etc...

Cheers.

Ps. I ask b/c at the moment my GPS is plugged into the car charger. If I get a FM transmitter that requires its own charger again but you can get double adaptors for that :D I have tried playing music off my GPS but the sound cracks and screeches. The car stereo also does not have AUX.

810149 2009-09-14 11:25:00 The stereo you describe appears to be what is called a double-DIN unit given it's four inch height. It is probably a factory unit, but you can get aftermarket ones. You find these in Altezza's/ Lexus IS200's for instance.

Just to get a bit more information, do you want the USB/ bluetooth so you can listen to music through your stereo? And the FM transmitter is so that you can broadcast what you want to listen to to a particular frequency on the radio so that you don't have to replace any thing expensive (like a new stereo lol)? Let me know if I've gotten anything wrong!

What kind of car do you have and what make is the stereo? Are there any brand marks on it?

How much you will pay will depend on what you are looking for- just to listen to music is one thing, but sound quality or output is another kettle of fish and $$$. You can replace a double DIN unit with a single one and a tray however, and you can get units with USB connections and AUX for not very much... just sayin'.

Also, if you want you could get the GPS power cable hardwired into so that it leaves the socket free... best bet is to walk into a few audio shops and see what options they have at the end of it all though.

810150 2009-09-14 11:32:00 Hey, I am wanting any of USB, bluetooth, aux because I can play mp3's on it easier because at the moment I rather not use CDs - hassle to burn them and the limited tracks. I thought about a fm transmitter becuase at the moment that is my only option if I don't change the stereo. As it might be $$ and that the color lights will be different will destroy the decor.

It is a Audi A4 2001, no idea what the stereo is, no names on it.

Re: if I change the stereo, I would to get a custom made faceplate right? Or do I have a standardised double DIN size/style?

810151 2009-09-14 11:41:00 I would think that itd be a standard 2 bay sorta thing, i know the later model holdens can be replaced with players with screens etc, you can also get them with changing lights that you can choose etc,go check out your local car audio place

He's on trade me too, gets pretty good deals, IMO.

I've dealt with them several times over the last few years. They also stock fascias for a lot of cars... Give them a ring, email, or you can probably find their page.

I have Pioneer FH-6050UB bought from him just over a year ago, has USB and is bluetooth capable but you need an adapter for the latter AFAIK. But I would try and get this year's model.

Edit: It's rear bluetooth so you get it in your glove box, which is much better than just on the front your head unit.

810153 2009-09-14 13:05:00 If you want to use cd's , get a stereo that says it can play mp3's. Then you can burn more files to it (probably 200-280) as is. Speedy Gonzales (78)
