810119 2009-09-14 09:54:00 My technologically challenged friend was recently offered a deal by Telecom. If she committed to them for 2 years they would give her a free ADSL2+ wireless modem, which would make her "high-speed broadband-capable". What they didn't tell her, but a check of their website did, is that her line isn't due to be upgraded until 2012. So they were asking her to commit for 24 months to get a capability that isn't going to be available for 36 months (if then!)

After discussion with me she has decided to politely decline the offer.

810120 2009-09-14 09:57:00 Sounds like Xnet's. Even if you buy your own dsl2+ modem, dont count on getting dsl2+ speeds. Unless youre on Fusion Speedy Gonzales (78)

They give everyone the modem - its free BECAUSE you have the contract.
Most of them do the same thing.

Most of them do the same thing.I understand the reason for the freebie - it is the sheer cheek of promising she will be "fast broadband capable" 3 years before the availability - or am I missing something?

810123 2009-09-14 10:27:00 She may be Broadband Capable, pity her phone line isn't, but they didn't actually lie about it. That is a giant leap forward for Telecom, so give them credit for taking that first tiny step on a very long journey. R2x1 (4628)

I'm not a knee-jerk Telecom-knocker (try saying that after a few RTDs), but I don't believe this is responsible behaviour.

810125 2009-09-14 10:53:00 For any other firm, I agree - - B U T - - -
It is Telecom, so any faint trace of honesty, no matter how small, has to be cherished, if only for it's extreme rarity.
You may never see it again.

810126 2009-09-14 11:18:00 "Broadband Capable" is the key words - as R2x1 mentioned, they are not telling lies, just not the complete truth - had they said a person would would receive ADSL2+ speed - thats different matter.

Bit like saying every one who buys a lotto ticket is "capable of winning" the 1st division - they are - but dont.
