809668 2009-09-13 03:50:00 Hi Folks. Anyone had dealings with this outfit? Out of the blue they have written to me (mail merge type) advertising their wares - including second hand stuff I wouldn't touch with a barge-pole. I am curious as to how they got my address and personalise the letter by referring to me by my abbreviated first-name, which I use amongst friends. Spam by any other name...... Scouse (83)
809669 2009-09-13 03:52:00 You can easily buy direct-mail marketing lists from a range of companies - NZ Post, LTNZ are among the places you can get them, but there are also private companies which will sell lists of names and addresses (as well as other information - like age, ethnicity etc. etc.).

Since it's done by snail-mail, it's legal (as it costs the sender a substantial amount of money to spam you).
