2010-05-25 15:30:00 | Get a better PSU | Speedy Gonzales (78) | |
2010-05-25 16:07:00 | it is a bit loud when i first turn it on but then the noise from psu quiets down. um let me see its: icute pentium 4 support model atx-320w/p4 and its 320w Bad PSU with dying fan, not the best combination if you want a stable system. Get a decent PSU first then see what happens... Eg: Enermax, Corsair, Seasonic, etc etc not cheap rubbish like Hyena

2010-05-25 21:28:00 | Goodiesguy I am not a big fan on Speedfan, it seems to throw some fairly wild readings on certain chipsets. As you can see your voltage readings are all over the place. I would check the Voltage readings in your bios just in case the readings are correct. Icute power supplies are not the best and that one I am guessing is around 5 years old. You could just replace the fan but I would replace the whole PSU, its got to be very close to the end of its life anyway. FYI you can past your system specs into your signature, not so common in this forum but very handy if you cant be bothered retyping them.

You could just replace the fan but I would replace the whole PSU, its got to be very close to the end of its life anyway. If those voltages were correct his PC would not be starting at all. Never mind the out of spec negative rails, his 3.3 and 12v rails are apparently non-existant. how much is a new psu? and the psu is 6yrs old I would be surprised if the problem wasn't the PSU - iCute is not a terribly awesome brand and 6 years is a long time for the cheap capacitors that would be in it. Sounds like a classic case of faulty capacitors (maybe helped by the dodgy fan) = bad ripple supression = outputs of PSU full of noise and ripple. Get a decent PSU and your system may magically work again. That's unless the PSU has damaged the capacitors on your motherboard and video causing the same problem there as well.... I recommend you get this PSU: pricespy.co.nz If you really need to go cheaper, try a Thermaltake or High Power (check the list here: pricespy.co.nz) |

2010-05-27 05:56:00 | my science teacher, who saids he knows lots about computers and that macs are better suggeseted i get a Coolermaster or something power supply. he said they were good. anyways he said that i should just get a new pc and ditch this one. thats what im doing slowly. im gonna replace parts one by one | goodiesguy (15316) | |
2010-05-27 06:18:00 | my science teacher, who saids he knows lots about computers   Change science teacher to Mate, friend, Son, father, the dog next door ( get the idea) Have heard that hundreds of times -- generally means they know enough to get into trouble, and have no idea how to fix it. Example: anyways he said that i should just get a new pc and ditch this one. So you throw away a possible perfectly working PC for the sake of one small problem  Would you throw away good clothes simply because you got a little spot of dirt on them ?

2010-05-27 06:28:00 | he said that windows has only just caught up with what mac os x could do 5 yrs ago. i tried to defend windows but i lost. he is a dick, he's selling his gaming pc on trade me cos his game that use some "Valve Engine" will now play on his mac laptop. he said that no one has 6yr old pcs (the age of mine) and that its too old. i am gonna get a new psu. and eventually i want to get a new motherboard with 4 ram slots instead of 2. i really don't think my specs are that old. they are abit on the miminal size but it still does most things that you can do today. so im happy. he laughed at the size of my video card. wtf?, i've seen brand new laptops at dick smith which have 128mb video cards

2010-05-27 06:47:00 | Some people are idiots, and have more dollars than sense (cents). You don't *have* to have the latest and greatest, and personally if I was you, I'd ignore everything that he says and take it as bias... In the mean time, fix up your current PC and prove him wrong. Actions speak louder than words!

2010-05-27 06:53:00 | thanks chilling, i've never liked him since we had an argument last term. the pc's were loading slow then it showed up during the login bit "setting up Symantec Antivirus". i was like "no wonder these are slow, it has nortons on it". the science teacher was like "Symantec is the best and safest antivirus their is, they have special keys so it cant be pirated....your probably using avg or avast" i was like "im using avast" he was like "avast is ****, i just took it off my pc". and i like my pc. i am gonna upgrade it one component by one tho as i want it to be more capable. and he said something today as well like "you try and make a pc laptop equivilent to apple mac, that has the size parts, the same weight, the same diameter. its impossible, you cant do it, you would have to make the parts yourself, macs are better than pc's, the only reason you like pc's is because windows is more common"
