He got life imprisonment but can be considered for Parole after 18 years have passed. If you can't work out that isn't 2016 then buy a calculator. |

| 810247 | 2009-09-15 09:26:00 | We will see and yes I can count I just have a bit of an inkling that things regarding law and the courts is not always what they say it is especially when the goody goods get involved If I recall correctly, life meant seven years non-parole in the 80's, went up to ten years in the 90's and this minimum non-parole thing started fairly recently. So sentencing for murder has got longer consistently over the last twenty or so years, I can't recall any occasion where a law has reduced the time for life over that period. Length of sentences has therefore consistently increased over last twenty years and it doesn't appear to have reduced the murder rate. Longer sentences if anything seem to increase the murder rate, and in the US where they have the death sentence they have a much higher murder rate than here. So historically speaking anyway, that was one of the toughest sentences handed down in New Zealand since the death penalty was abolished. |

There is a huge network helping prisoners and almost zero help for victims. The sentence was an insult to the victim, the victims dont seem to matter to judges. |

He is in on a life sentence, he won't be out this side of 2030 even if he is a saint in prison. No one helping vicitims? What planet have you been on lately. |
