You may get 20 years life out of one, but you can buy a lot of Casios for that price. I like Swatch. The other brand I like is the swiss made Wenger, which makes them for the army. They also make swiss army knives. Swiss made watches are good, but the japanese ones are probably just as good. I wouldn't spend more than a couple of hundred. robbyp (2751)
809402 2009-09-13 04:56:00 Why do people spend so much on watches? I mean my $300 phone does everything a watch does plus a million% more hueybot3000 (3646)

I think one would look funny wearing a cell phone on wrist!

I guess that if they only worn Seiko and Casio and Citizens et al .. then it is very average looking. Many people probably only need a $99 color cellphone but ..... :p On the same token on holiday people don't really need a hotel or a resort or a cruise, what about just a B&B or a Motel and head to the supermarket instead to the restaurant :D

Wrist watches may be similar to jewellery. I don't have a proper wrist watch, I a Olympus (Swiss made about $300-350 in 1997) which the leather strap need replacement but I don't think it is worth it so not done it. I think the metal straps goes better with formal wear. Other than that I am just for now wearing a Casio G Shock which I got for travel in 2004, might get a Casio with the compass for travel cos the one now the light is busted, the button don't work anymore. A Tudor would be nice too in the future

809405 2009-09-13 06:13:00 I use my Nokia pocket watch/ phone on a daily basis and have a cheap warehouse watch for caving as it will get trashed fairly quickly

Pretty much what I was saying here Huey.

Nomad I had one of those Casio watches with a compass, barometer etc. Downside is if you want true pressure readings or temperature readings you have to not wear the watch but attach it to your pack or something, so defeats the purpose a bit of having it in the first place

809406 2009-09-13 06:35:00 I bought a Seiko in 1999. It was the new "Kinetic" model and I have not touched in in 10 years. It only gains 10 seconds between Daylight Savings in both summer and winter. It is made of titanium and if I can ever wear the bugger out I will definitely replace it with the same, or nearest to it. I have worn it every day of the 10 years in all sorts of activities. Still looks like new.
