888172 2010-05-26 01:05:00 I think wainui probably saw that but is suggesting it may be easier to connect a DVD drive and try and install from that.
That's what I would do anyway. As SWMBO would say -- you know me so well

Just a long shot (guess) -- Did you go into the BIOS and disable any reference to the optical Drive - It may be trying to load in a drivers for a drive thats not there.

The drive is there, but its only a CD ROM :)

I've downloaded another copy of Server 2008 and will try that tonight. If it still doesn't work I just settle for Win 2008 x64, not the R2.

888174 2010-05-26 03:48:00 I'm a bit lost.....is the server booting from the dvd?.....it looks to me like it is looking for drivers for the raid hardware in order to select a drive to install on! SolMiester (139)

Its booting from an ISO image or a USB drive, so pretty much like a DVD. I thought it was looking for RAID drivers too, but when I put all the drivers I could find on a USB stick it still didn't work and brought up error in attachment 2.

This. Setup is asking for drivers for <insert some required hardware device here>. May be raid controller, or some other necessary driver that happens to not be included in Server 2008. This is the bit that used to be "Press F8 if you need to load drivers..." during setup of older versions of windows, it just does it automatically now if it thinks it needs it.

It may well not be raid controller, either, but chipset or something similar.

What type of controller is it? Check this link, it may be related...

No, Windows Server is not free. The difference between what and what?

888180 2010-05-26 08:13:00 I hate when stupid things that should work don't!Tell me about it - I was attempting to install Windows Small business server 2008 the other day -- Looks a lot like WHS interface but with a lot more features -- min Spec's 4 GB RAM. The board HAS 4 GB but the stupid OS says it doesn't, even in the BIOS it shows the correct amount  wainuitech (129)
