810228 2009-09-14 22:36:00 I'll go out on a limb - 24 years, with 18 years non-parole. nofam (9009)
810229 2009-09-14 22:40:00 May he rot for at least that, and hopefully suffer from at least a small amount of dropped soap syndrome. wratterus (105)
810230 2009-09-14 22:58:00 I will just wait and see.

No real point in speculation in my view.

The time to comment may be after the sentence is handed down.

810232 2009-09-15 03:37:00 The judge is pretty out of touch with the community when it comes to sentencing murderers.
Maybe he got of lightly because the victim was a female maybe the judges dont value their lives as much.

He has NOT been sentenced to 18 years in prison. He has actually been sentenced to life imprisonment, with a minimum non parole period of 18 years.

That means he cannot be considered for parole for at least 18 years, and he can be kept in prison for life if the Parole Board decides not to release him because he is a continuing danger to the community. That will be decided after he has served at least 18 years.

Personally, I expected him to get more, given the nature of the crime and what he did to his victim's body after death, and his attitude in court. Not sure how that term compares with recent sentences for murder.
