811209 2009-09-17 06:19:00 Hi Guys,

I know a lot of us on here are looking for jobs work etc.

There are lots of job agencies around which to my mind are useless.
They are paid for mostly by the employers and work for them.
They take your cv and pass it on if they think you come in the top 3 !
Then after 3 months of no results they tell you they have had no luck.

My new business idea would be for someone to set up a job agency where they work for the jobless and try to get them into a job !
The idea is they would keep submitting your cvs and coach you and actively seek out jobs for you. They would provide this service to employers for free ! ! and they would charge the new employee a fee, to be deducted from their wages at say $100 per week.

This would save employers quite a bit of doh, as it is expensive to advertise and to engage these so called Job agencies.

Any comments ?

811210 2009-09-17 06:27:00 I think there may be one agency works for employees from a job offer they pay a fee.

Not sure how employers would take that thou, some employees may be willing to pay a fixed fee if a job comes up. I think employers see agencies not only cost by administrative hassles. They may find it best just to advertise it themselves and then shortlist them.

IMO the only role for agencies are to shortlist applicants and then for the employer to say ok and grant them interviews. Then the employer takes over. From that there might be 2 applicants from agencies and 4 from individual applicants.

811211 2009-09-17 06:30:00 I know of a person who does just that, They work for a training company, and she tries to place them into work by approaching companies, and in turn companies register their interest.

And there was a backlash against an Auckland firm who deducted money off people placed into employment.

811212 2009-09-17 06:31:00 I would think if a employee needs it to be deducted from wages they rather not use them unless they are new to the labour market like a fresher out of school. I rather prefer the fixed fee.

But employees remain suspicious of agencies, is that job advised to me really a job that exist? Many roles advertised by agencies are generic. Not all jobs have a specific company and a specific position with the approp JD.

811213 2009-09-17 06:36:00 I have applied for a number of jobs recently that were advertised word for word for every town/region in NZ, Pretty obvious they were trying to build up their reserves of people in hope of making them available to employers on a causal basis as new work swings into gear with the better weather.

Funny enough I never heard back from them even though I had so much experience in the feild it would be hard to top (on paper anyway)

811214 2009-09-17 07:04:00 This sounds like a good idea, but exactly what kinds of jobs will they try to find employment for? I.T ? Customer service ? Engineering ? forums12345 (15197)

You have to be kidding. Might work for those looking at top end jobs but I can't see $30 - $35K people wanting or being able to afford to lose $100 a week.

Anyway there is an agency like that -that doesn't charge.
Its called WINZ.

1. If I was unemployed and living on the single dole I would see $100 a week for a few weeks a very small price to pay to get a job, compared to being unemployed for say 6 months.
2. Re Winz yes they are a free service, but all they really do is say look at the ads on the board. Do they really get people into jobs ?

Not if you couldn't afford it. Working doesn't help if your outgoings exceeds the income.

Yes there is a lady here in Wyndham that does this sort of thing. She was working at the prison until recently, she'd match almost released guys up with employers that she had been to see.

And if you bother, they do put you on their list - the job board is whats left over - a lot never even make it on there.

811218 2009-09-17 22:35:00 Not allowed to see the real jobs at winz unless you have been receiving a benefit for 12 months. Its a crock of ****.

We were disgusted with the system in place here when we returned to NZ from aus and sought out employment.

Personally if I were on the bones of my arse and needed help to take the next step, I'd pay a fee if it got me somewhere.
