810921 2009-09-16 19:52:00 At least 2,000 houses owned by Maori are to be insulated by the taxpayer as a result of the deal between the Maori Party and National over the Emissions Trading Scheme .

Maori Party co leader Pita Sharples says that is just one of the concessions made when his party agreed to give National the numbers to pass the new ETS into law .

Dr Sharples says it is a significant breakthrough for Maori who cannot afford the $3,500 they would need over and above the Government grant . He says 500 houses in Northland will be fitted out, 500 on the East Coast and at least a thousand in other parts of the country .

Dr Sharples accepts a rise in benefits to cushion the blow to households of the ETS is now off the negotiating table . It appears he was confused with the automatic increase, which is adjusted for inflation .

My son needs insulation in his home but cannot really afford it . Married with 2 kids, he works full time and they pay a mortgage on their home .

At the end of the week there is not a lot of cash left after paying all the bills .

Who should he apply to for have his home insulated for free???

PS He is a white New Zealander, not a maori!

Ken

810922 2009-09-16 19:57:00 Get some shoe polish for him, claim affiliation to some Iwi no one has heard of then all will be sweet.

I just fail to understand why the Maori are contemplating creating a New Zealand version of Apartheid when everyone knows it's wrong. Although I do believe this home insulation scheme in general is flawed it should be means tested as at the moment anyone can apply. And Northland doesn't get cold

810923 2009-09-16 22:31:00 I applied when the maoris sent out stuff for hapu about 6 years ago, I put my name down as Ngai Tahu.
They have sent me screes of stuff which I have dutifully replied to. I have zero maoris blood but I have an affinity with the maoris especially with all the treaty money they have.
Unless they do DNA tests or checks like the SS did for people with jewish blood I could apply for free maoris house insulation.
What are my chances and am I breaking the law?
northland does get cold I got hypothermed out duck shooting (on maoris land) back of kaitaia.

810927 2009-09-17 02:04:00 Sharples can stick it up his fat ass I reckon. He's not doing Maori any favor....he's damaging them.

I'm sick of the likes of him basically pushing Maori down and down the social ladder by making all of them look like dependent whingers when the Maori who are successful gets discriminated because of the likes of Sharples.
