2010-05-30 22:00:00 | [QUOTE=wainuitech;914536]Awhhh -- theres a hint -- If there is no graphics at all when running that CD, its not the OS. "The CD loads into RAM - what you should get is a white line running across the screen as it loads, then a window opens and Looks for the OS - depending on what it does or doesn't find, will depend on what its next option is." Just tried it again. Nope just nothing on screen, except the mouse pointer, which I can move as much as I like. There are some brief sounds of the CD being read, but the screen is still blank (except for the mouse pointer). I guess its quite possible the System Repair disk has started and is displaying a message - but if it is, I can't see it. Pity these things don't have provision for another monitor. And Oh, I tried a music CD but - nothing!!!!!! In case you missed it - After switching the computer on I get a completely normal looking Windows, animated, coloured splash screen. After that the screen goes black. Except of course for the movable white mouse pointer.

2010-05-30 22:18:00 | Please read post #28 ? Are you booting from the Actual CD and getting the loading as described ? Tried it two ways. (a)I switch the computer on and wait till the splash screen completes and then insert the Repair disk into the slot, there is minimal noise of the CD being read, but just a second or so of it. No on screen display. (b)I insert the repair disk into the slot, switch the computer off, with the CD still in it. Wait a minute or so and switch the computer on again. Same brief noise of the disk being read, but still no screen display, except for the splash screen shortly after switch on. Also tried turning the CD back to front before inserting it into the player, but it seemed to make no difference.

2010-05-30 22:25:00 | What if you touch the screen?? This is a touch screen isnt it? Has this got a card that supports more than 1 monitor? If it does, have you plugged in more than 1 monitor?? | Speedy Gonzales (78) | |
2010-05-30 22:47:00 | Check the CD -Try the Repair CD in another PC, no need to go completely through the whole process, its just to see if it loads up OK. If it boots from the CD OK in another PC, then it may not be the OS, could be something else turned turtle. Can you get into the BIOS to check that the Optical drive is the first boot device ?

2010-05-30 23:32:00 | If you are seeing the Windows splash screen then it is not booting from the CD. You need to get into the BIOS to set it to boot from CD. Based on your responses (and no offence intended :) ) I would strongly suggest taking it to someone who knows what they are doing.

2010-05-31 00:22:00 | To Wainuitech and others. Its working with no loss of data. Bloody brillant. Wainuitech, I followed your instructions and made the DVD Pri 1, switched the computer off, waited and switched on again and inserted the sys repair disk. Much more noise from the DVD this time. And eventually I get a screen of several options. One was use system restore. Well how could I resist that, seeing that was when the problem first occurred. Better still when I selected system restore, there was an option to undo my last restore point. Took it and the rest is history. Would certainly look like that restore point was faulty. But I guess I will never know why. BLOODY WELL DONE and thanks heaps.
