For some reason I believe windows is actually running behind the black screen,as I can hear the HHD working from time to time, and certainly the fans are running.

On boot, the screen looks and sounds just like it ever did while the splash screen is displayed. And its in colour too, with sound as well.

F12 is supposed to open the BIOS but but does not. I believe the keyboard is working as the F8 key works.

Dunno what next!

it is running behind the black screen. i'll find the links i used to try and help me. they may or may not work

Edit: you'll have to google. the links i had are gone

What you may have to do, if you dont have the Windows repair CD, is download it From Here (neosmart.net) - boot from that CD, tell it to fix the PC. It will try - sometimes it works other times it doesn't.

I now have the System Repair disk, but running it did not do anything, as you suggested it might. Mind you, if it asked me what I wanted to do I would never know with no monitor to view. Anyway I now have the disk in case I need it in future!

I have 3 DVD's that I made the day I got the computer and they each read Windows 7 System Image, disk one,two and three. I presume these disks contain a copy of the system as it was the day I got it. With the system repair disk not working, would it matter if I now tried these disks? I don't expect them to work, as the sys repair disk gave no indication anything was happening !
Or that the disk was being read.

889232 2010-05-30 10:50:00 If the repair CD wont fix it, there is the option to run system restore as well, try that, and see if it allows you to undo the restore you did.

Ah, I have no on screen video at all. Just the mouse pointer, which I can move where ever I like. The screen its self is blacked out. The only time I can see anything is when I switch the computer on and the Windows splash screen shows in all its coulorfull glory. But contrary to an earlier post of mine - there is no sound.

No AVG and thanks to yourself and the others who are trying to help. Maybe I should go out and purchase a copy of Windows 7, but i'm not convinced that the CD/DVD drive is actually working, so that would be a waste of time.

Interesting, thanks. Might have to resort to wiping the drive later on.

Mind you, if it asked me what I wanted to do I would never know with no monitor to view. Awhhh -- theres a hint -- If there is no graphics at all when running that CD, its not the OS.

The CD loads into RAM - what you should get is a white line running across the screen as it loads, then a window opens and Looks for the OS - depending on what it does or doesn't find, will depend on what its next option is.

You dont even need to have a HDD attached to the PC for it to load up the program from CD -- Just went out to the workshop - disconnected the HDD, booted from the CD and This is what you get (www.imagef1.net.nz(Large).JPG) - if you click next, you get several other options.

If you notice theres no OS showing in the box as there is no HDD connected.

Just be aware that using these will restore the system to the state it was in when the backup was made, and ALL YOUR DATA WILL BE GONE.

Gidday Fred Fish, Yeah reluctantly understand I'm gonna loose everything. Fortunatley, the beast is only a couple of months old, so I have not had the time to transfer everything to this new computer. Mind you, my training records going back over around 8-10 years are one thing I will not see again.

Ah well, I will persevere and see if Winuitech ? and/or others can come with anything. Thanks for the heads up.
