811177 2009-09-17 23:00:00 I must admit that after I got my Email this morning from TiVo about Telecom, I'm seriously considering a switch, and BigTime is looking very attractive :-/

My new boss lives about 1K from me, or around 600M from the exchange here.
He's testing things, two lines:
1) Orcon ADSL2+ with fixed-line
2) Telecom ADSL2+ with fixed-line

Long story short, at any given point in time, both are within 200K/bit sec download of each other, or 50K/bit sec upload... On a line where you're getting over 13m/bit download and 800k/bit upload, you *really* can't tell the difference.

We've tried combinations of identical & differing modems, and unfortunately at the end of the day it appears as though the Telecom connection has less resets than the Orcon one?! Not quite what I was hoping for.

I feel like I'm betraying the IT world, but Telecom looks seriously tempting... :o

I'm with telescummage at home...I hate to admit it but they have got steadily better over the last 2 years. And Orcon at work, while they practically never have an outage, the speeds are nothing special. 8mbit connection, used to be able to download at over 1mb/sec, now it seems to hover around 600-700 kb/sec.

Was downloading an Nvidia driver at home the other day, 800kb/sec. If there was ADSL2 here, I'm pretty sure we would all be on Big Time.

I can't believe it!

Unheard of.

811180 2009-09-17 23:24:00 You could well be right Ken. I just googled for 'Slap' and that one looked like it would fit the bill.

Here's the page it came from...
