Dodgy regulations, dodgy products, dodgy architects, dodgy builders etc etc. I know that those stupid looking houses with no eves & look like square block lego houses have silicone for Africa trying to seal them. There is a rest home in a posh suburb of Auckland that had the outside veranda type decks sloping towards the apartment & the drains at the highest level. The water ran under the upper level floor, which is above the ceiling in the lower level & the ceilings ended up landing on the floor. The whole place needed redoing. Who's fault is that? Architects for being useless, builders for blindly building it anyway, councils for not actually inspecting anything. Blame the government, they're the ones who provoked the exodus of a lot of the decent tradesmen to the land of opportunity. As for the insulation, look what's happened to the UK. Sharples is hoping it's going to happen here, or at least that's the impression he's giving. Anyone with a brown face has more rights & gets the hand outs. |

2009-09-17 20:58:00 | Good idea. But all this bs does make you wonder if you're living in the right place. Trouble is, where would one go? Everywhere is equally stuffed | Phil B (648) | |
2009-09-17 21:14:00 | I applied when the maoris sent out stuff for hapu about 6 years ago, I put my name down as Ngai Tahu. Just don't try claiming anything from Ngai Tahu, AFAIK they have a large family history database setup to establish exactly who is Ngai Tahu. www.ngaitahu.iwi.nz

2009-09-18 01:45:00 | My wife is registered as belonging to a local IWI, against her wishes, She has zero Maori blood but her parents remarried. They just build up as big a database of names(claiments) as they can so they have a bigger case for wanting compensation, of which of course we get none of....Though the paperwork they send us is all in Maori so who knows what the hell it says? though going by the pictures they are getting funneled more then a few tax dollars. I wait with interest to see if they put my sons names on their role.

2009-09-18 04:00:00 | I am a registered member of Ngai Tahu end of story. A few elections ago they had a maori/general roll option and an option to register your descendentry. They have accepted me because I am on a mailing list and I replied to every bit of paperwork they have sent me. My surname is English just like 80% of the Ngai Tahui survivors of Te Raparahas SI raids. Did old people get up to a bit of hanky panky with the South Island natives? I might well be descended so I want to make sure. Not breaking any laws and surely the maoris arent going to racially test people like the Germans and Hungarians did with jews and gypsies.
