| 1105664 | 2010-06-04 02:49:00 | There's quite a few programs you can use. Autopatcher/Streamer, the 3 that have been posted. Altho, I think AP only slipstreams service packs. You can also slipstream WMP files / updates (with WMP 11 that is), with WMP 11 slipstreamer. | Speedy Gonzales (78) | ||
| 1105665 | 2010-06-04 08:59:00 | Just a bit of a report on the WSUS Offline Update posted earlier in this thread by speedy. I Installed a stock standard XP home, SP2 --- then using another PC, downloaded the SP3 Service pack, along with all the updates the program could find. Took just over 2.1/4 hours to download and create the ISO, which ended up being just over 900MB. (these are only updates) Then Burnt the ISO to a DVD. (doesn't do it automatically) Placed it in the new Installed XP PC, it then went through loaded in SP3 - rebooted, then continued to install the remainder of the updates, almost unattended. I say almost as you had to manually reboot the PC when each Section of updates had installed. (4 times in all) The option is there to auto reboot, and carry on BUT there is a warning saying some PC's have trouble with this option - So I selected not to use that. All the updates went in fine. When finished I manually run windows Updates, there were 12 more the program didn't install totaling 17MB . Conclusions: The first download and making of the CD takes a fair while, But saves having to fully download again. The only other thing -- the updates still take the same amount of time to install as if doing them through Windows Update. In fact I had a customers XP home SP2 running at the same time, doing the updates the normal way, and that finished approx 15 minutes before the ones from the CD. The best thing going for it, is if you are doing several installs, then it would save having to download fresh each time, it looks for whats already installed, so if SP3 is there already it skips it - other than that, its no faster. If you wanted faster you would have to download with something like the WUD I linked, and then make a Windows install CD/ DVD using nlite with all the updates slip streamed into it. Still a useful program though :thumbs: |

Which includes installs of some / most updates for whatever, inc the .Net framework, DX, IE 8 (for XP), and extras (that you may or may not want). All of these SHOULD work with Nlite or RyanVM Integrator, which is here (www.ryanvm.net) I'm going to try this (www.ryanvm.net) which is on the above site. This will probably save you a LOT of mucking around. All you have to do, is get whatever file, then add it with Nlite or RyanVM Integrator. Then create / burn the ISO There is also a forum (www.ryanvm.net) for RyanVM Integrator, if you get stuck. |

| 1105668 | 2010-06-05 00:13:00 | Right, just made an ISO out of that 7z file I posted about (the XP one). Testing it with VirtualPC on this. Soon find out if it works / if anything is missing. But, so far so good with the install. Strange thing I've just noticed with XP. If you pw protect it, and there's a shared folder on another PC, (in this case, Vista) its no longer shared according to XP? I had to kill the pw in XP, to access the shared folder (in Vista, which was working, before I pw protected XP). I've never come across this before | Speedy Gonzales (78) | ||
| 1105669 | 2010-06-10 02:27:00 | Finally got everything slipstreamed into a 653 mb ISO (inc yesterdays .net, windows updates, and the June 2010 DirectX updates). So, once you install Windows, its up to date as of yesterday Talk about stuff around. Since the main file in the link I gave (the 200 mb one), installs the older versions of DirectX, MDX, and Silverlight, after you add the 200 mb file in Nlite, (you'll have to download June's updates, if you want to slipstream them). Then add the removal addons (for silverlight, DX, and MDX, (in RyanVM Integrator, since Nlite wont deal with them properly), IF you want to update them - you'll have to get the true addons for these, then add them in RyanVM Integrator (or else if you leave the older versions of the above there, and install the newer versions), once you've burned the ISO, and booted from it, it'll complain there's more than one version installed (if you go to add/remove programs / add/remove windows components). Then add the updated .net framework files from the site, (from 9/6/2010), then create then burn the ISO in RyanVM. Then burn it. If you want to remove Windows search, MSRT, WGA, Browserchoice, you'll have to download the addons from the site, then add them in RyanVM, then integrate them, before the entries / install files will be removed from the finished ISO. The only thing I have to type in is my name, and change the country. The key (so I wont have to remember it)! and workgroup are in the install |
