In a way Speedy, it was a microsoft spreadsheet! Ah, I think I get your point, spreadsheets dont get restored by system restore ?

But where to from here ?

889219 2010-05-29 13:24:00 Must have been more than spreadsheets. Deleting these wouldnt stop windows from booting / working. Where in NZ are you curly? Speedy Gonzales (78)
889220 2010-05-29 21:33:00 Being a Aspire All In One Z5610 - its not exactly the type of PC that you would easily remove the HDD.

As Speedy Asked -- What were the files you deleted, and from where ?

Depending on what they were will depend on how to fix it.

What you may have to do, if you dont have the Windows repair CD, is download it From Here (neosmart.net) - boot from that CD, tell it to fix the PC. It will try - sometimes it works other times it doesn't.

Once again, depends on what was deleted ?????.

Hi Wainuitech, we meet again :-). It was a Microsoft Works spreadsheet. I am a long distance runner and collect various data during training runs etc.

Starting to look like using my backup disk do you think ? I know that Acer have a help forum, but I don't know how helpfull they actually are, do you have any experience about them ?

889221 2010-05-29 23:28:00 never dealt with the Acer help forum - so I cant really comment. The Acer help desk will be of no use, they will more than likely tell you to run the recovery.

What I would try -- boot from a Bootable Repair CD as I mentioned in Post #7.

Select fix the PC - sometimes that works, it may simply be the boot loader is corrupted, after it runs through it may boot fine.

BTW-- Simply deleting a spread sheet, wont have cause the system not to boot.

889222 2010-05-30 00:48:00 Try pressing Alt-F10 (recovery partition), if that doesn't work then maybe this

Is your keyboard working at the F8/bootmenu screen? Is it a USB keyboard? You may need to turn on legacy USB in your BIOS settings to enable it at boot time (usually Delete key or F2 or similar (should tell you on 1st post screen) to access BIOS).

Sorry, missed this question, but yes keyboard is working as the F8 key causes the safe mode to open, though once open nothing can be selected.

889223 2010-05-30 00:53:00 Restart and press F8 while doing so.
select last known good configuration.
With a bit of luck you will have a working system.

Hi, pressing F8, though it displays a list of options, including last known good configuration, nothing is actually selectable on the screen. Like I can highlight it and press enter - but nothing happens.

No there was nothing else, (that I know of). I opened system restore, selected a restore point around a month ago and told it to proceed. It did its thing and shortly after rebooted the computer, saying something like your computer has been restored.

For some reason I believe windows is actually running behind the black screen,as I can hear the HHD working from time to time, and certainly the fans are running.

On boot, the screen looks and sounds just like it ever did while the splash screen is displayed. And its in colour too, with sound as well.

F12 is supposed to open the BIOS but but does not. I believe the keyboard is working as the F8 key works.

Dunno what next!

889227 2010-05-30 01:14:00 If the repair CD wont fix it, there is the option to run system restore as well, try that, and see if it allows you to undo the restore you did. wainuitech (129)
