811050 2009-09-17 00:44:00 Right now would be an excellent time to disband the Geographic Board.

All those in favour say aye!

True, but then the unemployment rate would rise further ... ;) Government must save face, they will cop less flak for keeping a useless organization paid than they would for increasing the unemployment rate at the next election :illogical :angry

811054 2009-09-17 00:57:00 It has not been confirmed yet and may be overturned by the minister.

The board received 889 public submissions, with 444 opposed, and 436 in support of the proposed change. Nine were neutral.

Mr Williamson may confirm, modify or reject the board's decision.

811055 2009-09-17 01:12:00 Bugger, it could go either way then... 436 + 9 = 445 .... :p

Talk about a close call!

811056 2009-09-17 01:13:00 I can't get over how large the percentage of people who want it changed is! :waughh: wratterus (105)

It's only 23% who either want it changed, or don't care, as determined by local referendum. 77% were opposed to it.

Almost 50% of submissions were in favour of the change, but that's not surprising - generally with this kind of thing there seem to be more submissions that support the more radical argument, or submissions that are against the status quo. In this case, both of those are on the same side (i.e. pro-h). I was personally surprised by the number of submissions supporting the status quo.

811058 2009-09-17 03:54:00 Let's have a full Referendum at the next elections.

And screw those who don't follow the wishes of the majority......................

Yeah RIGHT

811059 2009-09-17 03:56:00 We are not permitted to say that - "It is hardly surprising that when a whole race claim to have started from a bunch of whakas they will frequently display appropriate behaviour."

We are still permitted to think it though ;)
