1105956 2010-06-02 02:58:00 Hi you, and anyone else who may be of assistance.

Jen - I have the same Asus notebook as you, as previously discussed.

My problem is that I can't disable the touchpad! It's so frustrating. I've tried the Disable button - no luck. I've tried the Fn + F9 option. No luck.

So I spoke with Asus's helpdesk this morning. He suggested various options, none of which worked.

The damnable thing about this issue is while I'm typing I sometimes accidently touch the touchpad with the palm of my hand, and then my text goes haywire.

I can't be bothered to send the unit in under the warrantly (its about a year old), and can't be bothered to connect my desktop PC.

Any ideas?

1105957 2010-06-02 03:01:00 Are you looking to disable it temporally or permanently ? pantera989 (14533)
1105958 2010-06-02 03:27:00 Have you got the proper touchpad software installed?
Usually Synaptics is the most common.

1105959 2010-06-02 05:16:00 I'm with CYaBro, there's an option if you go Control Panel --> Mouse, there is usually a tab up the top specifically for the Touchpad (Synaptics). If there's not, install updated drivers for your touchpad and that should let you disable it from there Chilling_Silence (9)

Awesome advise!

Alternatively try a wired/wireless keyboard instead?

1105962 2010-06-02 06:54:00 The Fn-F9 works fine on my Asus laptop. As the others have suggested, have a look under the mouse properties and make sure you have synaptics installed.

There will be an option to disable the touch pad completely or only when there is a USB mouse plugged in.

1105963 2010-06-03 03:43:00 Thanks people. Evidently it's a driver issue - the manual has illustrations of the two types of mouse properties... mine isn't either. But also as mentioned by a friend I'll have to install the drivers.

Silly Asus helpdesk guy - he should've known better.

Thanks again folks.

1105965 2010-06-03 22:40:00 Hi Greg did you see 'Multi-Finger' in the Cntrl Panel with a bright red logo (something like S?). Please try Disable/Enable options in it and see how it goes. I had also been facing some unforeseen/never intended action issues like yours but they are now either stopped or under control. It looks like ASUS tried to help and make it easy for us but went far too much! namboothiri (14469)
