Free preferably - but a pay program if the free ones aren't any good.

Does Photoshop CS do it?
Or do you need something special?

My father has loads of negatives and he has a machine to get them onto the PC OK but wants a program to make them back into prints.

811497 2009-09-18 02:42:00 Photoshop CS will do it.

If you want something free, Artweaver will also do it.

811498 2009-09-18 02:43:00 Corel X2 aka Paintshop Pro will do it and has the advantage of being cheaper than Photoshop. Sweep (90)
811499 2009-09-18 02:51:00 You can also open the negative in Paint and go Ctrl + I which will invert the colours. Sweep (90)
811500 2009-09-18 03:08:00 Irfanview can also convert negative-positive. CYaBro (73)
811501 2009-09-18 03:33:00 Paint.NET or GIMP can also do it. Blam (54)
811502 2009-09-18 06:02:00 Photoshop CS will do it.

He has that. No idea which version. Possibly an older one??

How do you do it with that?
Complicated?

What's he using to scan the film? Is it a special film scanner? If so, I would have thought that the software would be able to do the negative->positive conversion without any 3rd party software. The more I think about it, the more it seems odd that the conversion needs to be done manually.

In Photoshop, Image > Adjust > Invert I am told. I don't have it installed here to try it.

I do have it but I find PSP easier.

I would think one would of needed a scanner of some sort, flat bed, dedicated or those slide thru things which comes with its own special software.
