812227 2009-09-21 11:18:00 People who endorse Norton or McAfee deserve to use it.

Although a typewriter with Norton has never been infected so far, and it is only buried in a small lump of concrete.

812229 2009-09-22 00:46:00 Ive yet to see a single infected PC that was running NOD (or KAV)
Most infected machines I see are running Norton or no AV.

Some of these comparitve tests probably arnt testing spyware detection, which is now a bigger problem than 'viruses'. Also many AV programs STILL dont bundle real(ie useful) antispyware with their product.

The test that is the subject of this thread specifically doesn't test any adware/spyware. Can you give an example of something that is a problem?

I see more spywareware/malware/adware/rougeAV infections than 'true virus' infections.
Some av programs may be good at detecting viruses but very poor at detecting spyware-Some AV programs needed the extra addon ($) for spyware/adware.

As a side note, now that Spyware Doctor is owned by Symantec, anyone else notice it missing more infected files/reg entries ???

As for Spyware Doctor -- As soon as Symantec took it over was the day I stopped using it.

Like just about all good software sysmantec get hold of -- Its stuffed soon afterwards.

Note: this is not a Norton Bashing - its a proven fact by many, that norton doesn't do what all the so called testing says it does. This week alone I have been to three places, two with Norton AV 2009 - riddled with infections, and One with a broken Internet - removed Norton and every thing worked again, even though all settings in Norton were correct.

812233 2009-09-22 21:47:00 I cant open the PDF file.
But I can imagine the results, these surveys tests, always put Norton etc at the top and Avast and AVG etc at the bottom.
I've gone from AVG to Avast and not regretted it. AVG got bloated and their support was non-existent.
I hear AVG are working a new version, I hope they don't go the bloated way !
But as most of you have said, the problem is really spyware and trojans etc.
There seem to be many programs to remove them, but not so many that stop them !

812234 2009-09-22 22:03:00 I had the same problem opening the PDF - right click / Save etc gets it.

Spyware Terminator does a reasonable job of stopping malware, but doesn't stop all.

One common trend I'm seeing are these damn casino sites - loaded with infections, and trojans - Nod does a damn good job of stopping those.
